Our story begins in the summer of 2020. We were both invited to serve as counselors at The Chimes Retreat. We did not know it but the Lord had a plan when a mutual friend offered to drive us to the camp. On that drive, we discovered the depth of our connections. I grew up in church with Abby's cousins. Some would say they were vetting me for years. Throughout that weekend I did everything I could to be near her and get to know her better. By the end of the three days, I knew she was the woman I would marry. I got home, waited for her to drive home to Huntsville, and called to ask her on a date.
The next day I drove up to Huntsville from Decatur where I was interning that summer. I got to her house 30 minutes early and met with her parents while she got ready. We had a great night driving around Huntsville, eating at Rosie's Cantina, and playing Topgolf. I got humbled very quickly when Abby doubled my score. After a few more dates and long days on the lake with friends, I was ready to ask her to be my girlfriend. On September 1st 2020 after a college worship night, we were officially dating.
Since then, we have gone on the best family trips to some amazing places and made so many fun memories. We have eaten more Foosacklys than I am proud to admit. Most importantly though, we have grown together and relied on Christ through it all. I knew from the very beginning I wanted to marry Abby and every day of this journey strengthened that belief.
On March 3rd 2023, we were supposed to be going to an anniversary dinner for my grandparents. I drove us to the chapel at the church I grew up at instead. Inside on the front steps of the chapel stage was a setup of pictures, candles and flower petals. That is the spot where I asked her to spend the rest of her life with me.
We are so thankful for our family and friends that have poured into us both. We cannot wait to celebrate with every one of you on December 16th!
